Driving Lessons Throughout Durrington

We teach students throughout Durrington village, Old Durrington, and everywhere in between. Whether you’re near the Plough Inn, among the lovely cottages in the old village, or anywhere along the Avon Valley, we come to you.

The mix of village roads, the A345 running past, and quick access to the A303 means Durrington students get proper variety in their practice. You’re learning real road skills, not just pottering about locally. Many of our Durrington students start out feeling nervous about driving, which is completely normal. We focus on building confidence at your pace, with no rushing or pressure.

About 20 minutes to Salisbury test centre means most of your lesson time is still focused practice once we get there. By test day, you’ll know the route so well you won’t feel anxious about navigating unfamiliar roads.

  • We know Durrington roads and the routes to Salisbury inside out
  • Flexible scheduling that works around your life - work, family, whatever
  • You'll practice the test routes so much they'll feel familiar on exam day

  • Rich Langley

    Owner/Instructor

I became an instructor as I loved driving and found a lot of joy in teaching in a previous job. I genuinely love the job and a lot of passion for what I do. Outside of this, you’ll find me in the gym, up a mountain or at the side of a lake, trying to catch some large carp.

  • Sally

    Instructor

I’ve been a driving instructor for over 20 years now — how time flies! I still teach with passion and a sense of fun, because I believe we all learn quicker when we’re enjoying ourselves.

Outside of lessons, I’ve recently discovered a love for gardening (I must be getting old!). I have two grown-up children who are now enjoying their independence behind the wheel, which gives me more time for long walks with my dog — and the occasional well-earned holiday.

Durrington Driving Lessons FAQs

Find answers to your most pressing questions about learning to drive with us.
  • Is the drive to Salisbury going to eat up too much lesson time?

No, you’re still learning the entire journey. That’s 40 minutes of real driving practice on proper roads each lesson, which builds experience faster than you’d think. Plus you’ll know the route to the test centre so well that come test day, you’re not navigating somewhere unfamiliar. That familiarity is actually a significant advantage.

  • Can you pick me up from anywhere in Durrington?

Yes, no problem at all. Village centre, Old Durrington, near the schools, Larkhill direction, wherever works for you. Just tell us where’s convenient and we’ll sort it. We know the area well after years teaching here.

  • Do you teach in Durrington itself or just drive to Salisbury?

Both, and the balance shifts as you improve. Early lessons often focus on Durrington roads to build confidence in familiar surroundings. As you progress, we spend more time in Salisbury on test-standard practice. You’re never just being driven about as a passenger though, every minute counts as active learning.

  • I work irregular hours - can you be flexible with lesson times?

Yes! Durrington has loads of people with shift work, commuting patterns, family commitments. We’ll work around your schedule rather than forcing you into slots that don’t fit. Just be upfront about your availability and we’ll sort something.

  • I'm nervous about driving. Will Old Durrington's narrow roads make that worse?

Actually, they’re brilliant for nervous learners. We start there precisely because they’re quieter and build your confidence with fundamental skills before introducing busier roads. Those narrow lanes teach close control in a low-pressure environment, which then makes wider roads feel easier when you progress to them.

  • What makes Durrington good for learning compared to other areas?

The variety, really. Old Durrington teaches narrow lane skills, the modern parts cover residential driving, the A345 gives A-road experience, and the A303 nearby offers dual carriageway practice. You get comprehensive training without traveling to different areas. Plus the route to Salisbury becomes so familiar it removes test-day stress.

  • Do you offer automatic lessons?

No — we teach manual lessons only.

  • Do you teach in the evenings or at weekends?

Yes. We offer weekdays and evenings but we don’t currently offer weekend lessons. Our lessons do fill up fast so they’re all subject to availability.

  • How do I book?

  • How long is a lesson?

Lessons are booked in 2‑hour blocks (£85).

  • I failed before with another instructor – can you help?

We can’t promise miracles, but we can promise a different approach. Over 150 five-star reviews say we’re pretty good at this. We’ll figure out what went wrong before, work on the specific issues, and get you test-ready properly. Loads of our students have been through failed tests with other instructors and passed with us.

  • “Having passed first time and thoroughly enjoyed every single lesson, I couldn’t recommend Richard any more highly!

His teaching methods also guarantee that you are capable of driving well in unfamiliar situations and he has been extremely well-organised and thorough in making sure that every lesson is productive as possible.

I really am thankful for his lessons and I recommend him to any new learners!”

  • “Rich was a great instructor and I passed first time, would highly recommend. Definitely learnt more about driving than just how to pass the test. Also a great laugh when appropriate and he really helped calm my nerves before the test. Thank you!”

  • “I started driving lessons when I was 17, and have gone through 3 other driving instructors but found it just wasn’t the right fit. I’m 21 now and passed my test yesterday, and it was all thanks to Rich. After not driving for almost a year and a half I started again in January with rich and by April I have now passed. And I couldn’t have done it without him. He is genuinely the most lovely guy and puts you so at ease. Any mistakes made he doesn’t make you feel uncomfortable he tells you it’s fine and I would improve and we carry on. He explains everything in a way that you just understand and means you can remember easily. I would recommend Rich to anyone who asked me about driving lessons as I genuinely couldn’t think of anyone better to learn with. And I’ve tried a few… Thank you again, So So much!”

  • “I wholeheartedly recommend Passmaster Driving School, and through Rich’s lessons I passed my test first time with no minors.

Rich is professional, kind, approachable and takes the time to make sure you’re comfortable with everything. He really makes you feel at ease and I’ve had a great time learning with him.

    Thanks so much Passmaster!”

  • “My instructor was Richard Langley and I can say that he is absolutely the best driving instructor that I’ve had.

If you are serious about being a good driver and not just passing your test, want structure and genuine thought into your learning process and someone who will pinpoint your weaknesses and help you get past them, go with Rich.

The lessons are two hours when I was doing them, and the test itself will seem remarkably easy in comparison to Rich putting you through your paces. Highly recommended and good choice if you are brand new to driving or you are swapping instructors and just need someone to iron out your weaknesses.

Lastly, I’ll say that Rich made himself available to help me pass on a day that he’d normally have off – the man genuinely cares about his students. Can’t ask for more from a teacher.”

  • “Rich is an absolute legend, couldn’t ask for a better instructor. So easy to get along with and is such a supportive and patient person. Passed first time thanks to him, couldn’t have done it without him.”

  • “Couldn’t recommend Rich more highly as a driving instructor! Patient, supportive and knowledgeable teacher who always put me at ease as an anxious driver, who helped me build my confidence and knew when to push me outside my comfort zone. Will be recommending Rich to anyone as he made learning to drive such a fun and enjoyable experience and helped me pass first time with just 6 months learning ! Will greatly miss my weekly lessons with him.”

  • “Rich is an amazing driving instructor, I’ve been driving with him for a while now and he’s been very supportive and understanding. I’ve never felt rushed in a lesson, always felt at ease and comfortable in my lessons. Thank you soo much again rich for helping me pass ☺️”

  • “For anyone looking to learn to drive, Rich is your guy. Besides being a very competent driving instructor, he is calm, patient, humorous, and a general legend. I was lucky to get a cancellation for my driving test, and Rich set aside extra lessons, including one outside of his normal hours, to ensure that I had the best chance of passing, which I did, with just one minor, which was completely my own fault. Would absolutely recommend to anyone looking to learn to drive.”
